Physical performance could be improved mainly because  of the following components of Salba.: w-3 polyunsaturated, iron, essential amino acids, calcium and phosphorus. In addition, due to the observed reductions in inflammatory markers in clinical trials, Salba. is
ideally suited to aid in sports, increase physical performance, and accelerate physical recovery.

Reason: No single food exists to suit the body’s special demands during increased physical activity.

Elderly and Aging Population

The aging process could be ameliorated with Salba’s high protein and essential amino acid, w-3 polyunsaturates, antioxidant vitamins and minerals, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, iron, potassium, dietary fiber.

Reason: Special needs and demand for healthy and convenient foods by the exponentially increasing aged population and baby boomers.

Children & Adolescents

Major recent nutritional survey in North America demonstrate a severe deficiencies of major nutrient in diet of adolescent. Nutrient dense food, w-3 polyunsaturated, folate, iron, calcium, phosphorous.

Reason: Some of the major food deficiencies found in youths are due to special physiological requirements during development, irregular feeding and specific lifestyle.

As multi-tasking has become a way of life in western society, fewer adults put time aside for meals throughout the day. This phenomenon has created a huge market opportunity for tasty nutrient-packed foods that deliver the satiety of a mini-meal while delivering equal or better nutrition. Salba., with its ideal nutrient density, is an optimum key ingredient for nutritious On the Go foods.

Reason: Some of the major food and pharmaceutical industry is trying to enter this huge, but underrepresented market.

Women’s Health

Modest daily consumption of Salba. provides crucially important nutrients related to women’s health, and their special needs, including calcium, phosphorus, iron, w-3 polyunsaturated, folate, magnesium and antioxidants.

Reason: Very specific nutrient requirements that could barely be achieved from regular food sources and modern diets.

Weight Loss/Wellness

Due to Salba’s abundant source of essential nutrients, it can easily be applied in weight loss programs, and can be used in formulating meal replacements. It is useful to notice that consumption of 100g of Salba. results in about 8 times fewer calories from the combined best sources of the same nutrient. In addition, an exceptionally high level of Tryptophan (an amino acid that suppresses appetite) may affect satiety. Also, due to Salba’s high fiber content, constipation related to weight loss diets could be alleviated.

Reason: Increase in obesity of 50% over 8 years in US has created a major health concern, with a current lack of effective weight loss treatments.

Bowel Movement & Colonic Health

Due to high its concentration of dietary fiber, w-3 polyunsaturated, magnesium, antioxidant vitamins and minerals, and immunity-boosting nutrients, Salba. could be positioned as a good regulator of constipation, colonic health and gastrointestinal abnormalities.

Reason: Approximately 50% of adult women, and over 30% of men suffer from constipation. Many others experience many other gastrointestinal conditions

Vegetarian/Deficiency Diets/Famine

Salba. could be used as a supplement or as the key ingredient in many nutrient deficient diets. Salba. could also be added to snacks, fast foods and those consuming monotonous diets to compensate for nutritional deficiencies. Due to the exceptional high profile of essential amino acid and essential fatty acid, along with all other nutrients, Salba. could be considered the world¡¯s most nutritious food crop, and thus can be used as a global remedy for world hunger.

Reason: Restrictions in quality or quantity of food leads to many health problems and ill conditions. Increasing number of the world’s inhabitants, in developing and developed countries are exposed to these conditions.

Specialty Diets

Salba. could be used in specialty formulas such as Eternal and Par-eternal nutrition, specialty hospital diets (including patient recovery, starvation, celiac disease, kidney, diabetes, etc.), airline/cruise dining, space programs, AIDS patients, etc.

Reason: Highly deficient areas and availability of adequate food.

  1. Reduction in Inflammation (C-Reactive Protein)
  2. Blood Pressure reduction
  3. Improves Blood Coagulation (Aspirin-like effect ¨C” Blood thinning)
  4. Control of Diabetes
  5. Cardiovascular (CVD) Risk Reduction
  6. Reduction in Inflammation (C-Reactive Protein)

Inflammation plays a major role in the pathology of atherosclerosis and is associated with increased risk of plaque rupture (leading to heart attack). It is a strong independent predictor of future myocardial infarction, stroke and peripheral arterial disease among apparently healthy men and women. High sensitive C-Reactive Protein (CRP) correlates more with heart disease than any other major heart disease risk factor including hypertension, diabetes or high cholesterol levels. Only very few interventions, including weight loss
interventions and Statins drugs (lipid lowering medications) have reported reduction in CRP levels. Because of these effects, Salba. could be offered to elderly (advanced atherosclerosis) individuals with angina pectoris, family history of heart disease or stroke,
and some forms of cancer. Others who may benefit from reducing inflammatory events include people performing hard physical work, doing exercise or sports, people subjected to chronic stress, or during convalescence. The ingredients in Salba. responsible for the effect on inflammation may include: w-3 polyunsaturated, calcium, magnesium, antioxidant vitamins and minerals.

2- Blood Pressure reduction

Approximately 60 million North American adults are hypertensive, and only 1/2 of those receiving pharmacological therapy achieve treatment goals. Alternative therapies are warranted. Consumption of Salba. reduced systolic and diastolic blood pressure (BP) 10/5 mm Hg. These are comparable to the effects of the anti-hypertensive agents, and are rarely seen in the scientific literature with any other single food therapy. Possible active ingredients or components in Salba. responsible for the BP-lowering effect may include high
intake of w-3 polyunsaturated fat, fibre, protein, potassium, calcium, magnesium, antioxidant vitamins and minerals.

3- Improves Blood Coagulation
(Aspirin-like effect ¨C” Blood thinning)

Thicker blood is more likely to produce atherogenesis and reduce circulation. Acetyl salic acid (i.e. Aspirin) has been known to have anti-platelet activity for more than 30 years, and has a well-established reputation as an effective agent for the prevention and treatment of cardiac events. Salba. demonstrates similar anti- inflammatory effects, which were demonstrated by reductions in plasma fibrinogen, Factor VIII, and vonWillebrand factors. These effects are beneficial to most people and especially important in individuals with diabetes. Possible active ingredients of Salba. responsible for this effect may include: w-3 polyunsaturated, magnesium, antioxidant vitamins and minerals.

4- Control of Diabetes

Diabetes is a syndrome that has a number of underlying causes grouped into major (glucose, insulin, blood pressure, serum lipids) and novel (hyperinsulinemia, coagulation, fibrinolysis) risk factors. Thus, effective treatment could only be achieved with polypharmacy (currently diabetic individuals take, on average, 5-10 drugs) or/and excellent dietary and lifestyle treatment. Salba. has a unique composition, dense in nutrients that, based on our study, results in significantly improved metabolic control of diabetes. Possible active ingredients or components in Salba. responsible for control of diabetes include: w-3 polyunsaturated fat, monounsaturated fat, fibre, vegetable protein, chromium, magnesium, antioxidant vitamins and minerals. Unknown components of Salba. or/and ideal proportion of them may be an additional reason for observing this effect.

5- Cardiovascular (CVD) Risk Reduction

Consumption of Salba. can play an important role as a sole source or an adjunct in the prevention and treatment of CVD (Myocardial Infarction, Angina, sudden cardiac death, Stroke, and Peripheral Claudification). This statement is based on our clinical study results and improvement of conventional and emerging risk factors presented above.
